Downed Device Detection method 'ping or snmp uptime' not working

Post by Dinusha9999 »

Hi All, I recently installed the newest Cacti version 1.2.27 and added a test device. That device is not UP now. (ping and SNMP are down). But Cacti identified the device status as UP. I used 'ping or snmp uptime' as the Downed Device Detection method. and the below-mentioned detection methods are working fine. the only issue is with 'ping or snmp uptime'. Please help to resolve this issue.

If I remember correctly, there is some problem with the ping or snmp detection method. I don't know if it has been solved yet. Set the detection method to snmp, it works well

Is this using cmd.php or spine or when editing the device? Let us know your OS and PHP version.

From the command line or from the Status when editing the device? Is spine setuid() and owned by root?

From the command line or from the Status when editing the device? did not get the point

Is spine setuid() : yes
and owned by root? the file owner is the Apache user, file owned group is the root

What does Cacti say when you edit the down device?

Run spine on the down device at -V 5

./spine -R -V 5 -S -H host_id

Re: Downed Device Detection method 'ping or snmp uptime' not working

Post by TheWitness »

Yea, that output looks problematic. The ping fails, and the snmp is skipped, but I don't see the correct message of the host being ignored as it's down. For now, avoid the Ping and SNMP and just stick to either Ping, or for SNMP devices just SNMP Uptime. If you could log a bug on GitHub and include that output, I would appreciate it.

Re: Downed Device Detection method 'ping or snmp uptime' not working

Post by TheWitness »

What version of spine is this? I ran with the "Ping and SNMP", and it's working as expected. However, it looks like "Ping or SNMP" has some oddities. It still skips the SNMP portion of the host due to the first snmpget failing.

Re: Downed Device Detection method 'ping or snmp uptime' not working

Post by Dinusha9999 »

I am using spine 1.2.27. yes, the only issue is with "Ping or SNMP uptime" method. 'SNMP uptime' , 'Ping' , 'Ping and SNMP uptime' methods are working fine.
